Examination Committee and Appeal
Power of
the Senate
For the purpose of these regulations, the conduct of the University
programmes, the setting of academic standards, including the
standards for the assessment of the academic performance of students
shall lie with the Senate established under section 18 of the Act.
(1) There shall be an Examination Committee for each Faculty or
Institute which shall consider and decide on any examination
irregularity reported and recommended and/or impose action on
persons found responsible for or guilty of such irregularity.
(2) The Examination Committee shall be composed of –
(a) the Dean of the Faculty or Institute's Director who shall be the
Chairperson;
(b) the Heads of Departments within the Faculty;
(c) the Faculty or Institute Administrative officer who shall be the
Secretary.
(3) The Committee shall have power to co-opt any other person who,
in the committee's discretion, will assist the proceedings at such a
sitting and shall have power to summon any candidate allegedly
involved in an Examination irregularity.
Appeals
against Examination results
(1) All examinations appeals shall lie with the Senate.
(2) Appeals against examination results shall be allowed only where
unfair marking or other problems like irregularity in the conduct of
any university examination are alleged.
(3) Appeals shall be lodged and registered using the appropriate
forms and a register maintained by the appellant's Department.
(4) No appeal whatsoever pertaining to the conduct of any University
examinations and the marking of scripts thereof shall be entertained
unless such an appeal is lodged with the appropriate University
Authorities within six months of the date of publication of the
results by or under the Authority of the Senate.
(5) The Senate shall deliberate and determine all appeals lodged
with it.
(6) The Secretary to the Senate shall immediately after the
determination of appeal, inform the appellant in writing of the
decision of the Senate.
Non
refundable appeal fee
All appeals must be accompanied by a non-refundable appeal fee which
shall be determined by the Senate from time to time.
